Since this is the first blog I thought I write about the first musical movie moment. It is pretty sad to admit this, but it has to be Grease.
John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, along with a crowd of other ’70s small screen icons, made movie musical history. No matter whether or not you actually like the film, you still know the words and perhaps even the dance moves to at least one of these songs ( I can say that because I know all the words and most of the dance moves).
More to the point though, I choose this movie because it is a classic musical with songs that still appear on music charts (No joke, I saw it the other day).
Having said that though the movie itself was pretty raunchy for its day, based in the ’50s it discussed issues like teen pregnancy, drinking, fast cars, love and the future after high school. And they managed to sing and dance their way through it. My song choice has Summer Nights, a classic song- boy meets girl scenario…uh so very cute.
Make of it what you will, but I bet you can’t help singing along to this one.
